Haven-1

A one-module private space station that Vast plans to launch on a Falcon 9 in 2027. Crews of four would visit on SpaceX Dragon for stays of about two weeks.

Why it matters

The ISS is due to retire around 2030. Haven-1 is set to be the first private station in orbit, which would test whether a company can sell research time and astronaut stays without NASA owning the station.

How the technology works

Haven-1 launches uncrewed as a single pressurized module. A SpaceX Dragon carries each crew of four for a stay of about two weeks, while the station draws power from its own deployable solar arrays.

Vast flew a smaller pathfinder satellite, Haven Demo, from November 2025 to February 2026 to test the station's power, radios and flight software before committing to the full module.
