Starcloud-1
Small demonstration satellite that carried an Nvidia H100 data center GPU into orbit in November 2025 and ran AI models there.
Why it matters
It was the first test of a data-center-class GPU working in orbit. If high-end chips can survive radiation and shed heat in space, orbital computing becomes a real option for AI workloads that are short on power and cooling on Earth.
How the technology works
The satellite flew a single Nvidia H100 GPU. Starcloud says that in December 2025 it used the chip to train a small language model (Andrej Karpathy's nanoGPT) and to run a Google Gemma model in orbit.
