Neutron

A medium-lift rocket with a reusable first stage, designed to carry about 13 tonnes to low Earth orbit for satellite constellations, national security and exploration missions. First flight has slipped to 2027.

Why it matters

Satellite constellation operators and government customers have few choices for medium-size launches. A reusable rocket in this class from an established small-launch company would add another option.

How the technology works

Neutron's first stage is designed to return to the launch site or land on an ocean platform so it can fly again. It is powered by Rocket Lab's Archimedes engines and will launch from Launch Complex 3 at Wallops Island, Virginia, which is under construction.

A Stage 1 tank ruptured during a qualification pressure test in January 2026, affecting the schedule.
