X-Bow Solid Rocket Motors

Solid rocket motors, including ones made with 3D-printed propellant, built for missile and defense programs.

Why it matters

Solid motors power missiles and many launch vehicles. Lockheed Martin invested in X-Bow and signed an agreement to bring it on as a new independent supplier of solid motors, adding capacity outside the established makers.

How the technology works

X-Bow mixes and casts solid propellant into motor cases, and has a patented method for additively manufacturing propellant grains. Its 'Rocket Factory in a Box' packages motor production into a deployable setup.
