LightGrid

A planned network of satellites in low lunar orbit that collect solar power and beam it by laser to equipment on the Moon's surface up to 200 km away.

Why it matters

Solar-powered landers and rovers freeze and die during the 14-day lunar night or in shadowed craters. Power from orbit could keep them running without heavy batteries or nuclear sources.

How the technology works

Satellites in low lunar orbit would aim lasers at small LightPort receivers on customers' vehicles, reaching targets up to 200 km away. Three satellites working together could also offer positioning and timing signals.
