DROID

Turion's maneuverable spacecraft that image and track other satellites and debris from orbit, and are designed for close approaches and, later, refueling.

Why it matters

Knowing exactly what is in orbit, and what it is doing, matters for avoiding collisions and for national security. A spacecraft that can move close to other objects can see them in detail.

How the technology works

DROID spacecraft image other objects and support rendezvous and proximity operations, with refueling planned. Turion says DROID.001 and DROID.002 have returned more than 40,000 images, and it plans three launches to low Earth and geostationary orbit under the Space Force STRATFI program.
