ThinAir Ka2517

Low-profile Ka-band antenna mounted on airliners that connects passengers to satellite networks in more than one orbit.

Why it matters

Inflight Wi-Fi is now expected on most flights. A flat antenna that works with several satellite networks lets airlines switch providers without new hardware and adds little drag.

How the technology works

It uses ThinKom's patented VICTS antenna technology, which the company says first flew in 2015, in a flat, low-drag package on top of the fuselage that tracks satellites as the plane moves.
