Land Displacement Monitoring

A Synspective service that uses repeated radar images to measure millimeter-scale ground movement, warning of sinking land or landslides near roads, railways, ports and dams.

Why it matters

Subsidence and landslides often build up slowly before failures. Synspective says measuring movement over wide areas from orbit costs less and takes less time than existing survey methods, and works in places crews cannot reach after a disaster.

How the technology works

The service is based on interferometric SAR: radar images of the same place taken at different times are compared to detect millimeter changes in ground height. Synspective offers it alongside other services such as flood damage assessment.
