Most companies that want to try manufacturing in orbit cannot build their own spacecraft. A shared box that flies on several return vehicles lowers the cost and wait for each run.
How the technology works
BentoBox supplies power, thermal control, a pressurized environment and near real-time commanding to customer payloads of up to about 100 kg. It flies on partner vehicles: Space Cargo Unlimited's timeline lists ATMOS PHOENIX in 2027, then Space Rider and SpaceX Starfall in 2028.
