Hybrid rocket engine

A rocket engine from Pulsar Fusion that pairs a solid fuel with a liquid or gas oxidizer, offered as a second-stage engine for launch vehicles.

Why it matters

Pulsar says hybrid rockets avoid the propellant-handling dangers of solid rockets and much of the mechanical complexity of liquid rockets. Selling engines today also brings in revenue while its fusion work continues.

How the technology works

In a hybrid rocket, fuel and oxidizer are stored in different states, typically a solid fuel grain and a liquid or gaseous oxidizer. The oxidizer flows into the fuel chamber to burn.

Pulsar lists the engine among its operational products and describes it as a second-stage engine.
