FireSat

A planned fleet of infrared satellites, built by Muon for the Earth Fire Alliance with Google Research, designed to find wildfires while they are still small and check on them often.

Why it matters

Wildfires are easiest to stop in their first hours. Today's fire-watching satellites are either too coarse or pass over too rarely to catch small fires quickly.

How the technology works

Satellites carry infrared sensors tuned to the heat of fires and are spread around the globe so any spot is revisited often. Muon builds and operates the satellites.

The first FireSat returned first-light wildfire imagery in 2025, and the first three operational satellites deployed in July 2026.
