On-Orbit AI
Lets customers upload and run AI software on Loft's satellites, so imagery is analyzed in orbit and only the findings are sent down.
Why it matters
Sending raw imagery to the ground is slow and costly. Running detection in orbit can deliver alerts on ships, fires or disasters in seconds. NASA used it to run a vision-language model in orbit in 2026, a first according to TechCrunch.
How the technology works
Loft satellites carry Nvidia Jetson GPUs and a software layer that lets third parties deploy apps, much like an app store. On YAM-9, NASA JPL's software ran Google's Gemma 3 model to find features in imagery from plain-language requests.
