Hyperfield satellites
Kuva Space's hyperspectral cubesats, which split light into over 100 narrow color bands so software can tell what a field, lake or cargo is made of.
Why it matters
Ordinary cameras show shape and color. Hyperspectral data can reveal crop stress, water pollution or illicit crops, which is why Europe's Copernicus programme and NASA have both signed Kuva up as a data supplier.
How the technology works
Hyperfield-1 launched on a SpaceX rideshare in August 2024 and Hyperfield-1B, a 6U cubesat, followed in June 2025. Kuva says a second generation of about 60 kg satellites will add a shortwave-infrared hyperspectral camera, a high-resolution color camera and a ship-tracking AIS receiver.
