SL1

A planned three-stage orbital rocket using hybrid engines, sized for small satellites of several hundred kilograms. HyImpulse targets a first flight in 2027.

Why it matters

SL1 would add a German option to Europe's small-launch market and test whether cheap paraffin-based hybrid engines can work at orbital scale.

How the technology works

SL1 scales up the paraffin-and-oxygen hybrid technology flown on SR75, using turbopump-fed engines of about 90 kN, and is sized to put up to 600 kg in low Earth orbit.
