HEL-IOS
An automated mini-factory that grows cells, tissues and protein materials on a satellite with no astronauts, then returns the products for medical use.
Why it matters
Some biological materials form more evenly without gravity. If they can be made reliably and to drug-industry quality standards in orbit, they could become implants or treatments that are hard to make on Earth.
How the technology works
HEL-IOS combines bioreactors, fluid and media handling, environmental control, harvesting and quality monitoring in one closed system run by software. It can fly on Helogen's own spacecraft or plug into a customer's.
Helogen plans to use flight data to work toward GMP compliance and FDA review.
