S3 robotic servicing satellite

A robot-armed satellite built to rendezvous with, grab and service another satellite in orbit. The flight model is finished, but launch was pushed past 2028 to prioritize defense work.

Why it matters

Docking with satellites that were never designed to be serviced is the hard part of extending satellite lives or removing dead ones. S3 is GITAI's test of doing that with its own arm and docking hardware.

How the technology works

A servicing satellite with a robot arm and autonomous rendezvous and docking systems flies with a separate target satellite. The plan is to approach, dock with a non-cooperative target, do robotic servicing tasks and then de-orbit the pair.
