UK Active Debris Removal mission

A £61 million UK Space Agency mission, led by ClearSpace, to remove two defunct UK-registered satellites from low Earth orbit, with operations targeted for 2029.

Why it matters

It is the UK's first national debris-removal mission, and it aims to remove two targets on a single mission rather than one.

How the technology works

ClearSpace is prime contractor. A servicer will approach each of two retired UK satellites in turn, capture them and send them into the atmosphere.

Launch timing depends on final mission and launch scheduling.
