Canadian Lunar Utility Rover (LUV)
A 1-tonne class rover the Canadian government plans for hauling cargo, supporting science and helping astronauts on the Moon. Canadensys is doing early design work.
Why it matters
A utility rover is a workhorse that moves equipment and supports crews around a lunar base. Canada has set aside a multi-year budget for it.
How the technology works
The first contract pays for preparatory studies and technology trade-offs for a rover in the 1-tonne class, built for logistics, science and astronaut support. Canada has budgeted $1.35 billion over 13 years for the rover and its technologies, and Canadensys says it is planned to reach the Moon around the mid-2030s.
