LunaGrid

A planned power utility on the Moon's south pole that would sell electricity to landers, rovers and instruments, including through the two-week lunar night.

Why it matters

Most Moon missions die when the Sun sets because they cannot store enough energy. Shared power on the surface would let equipment run for years instead of days, and would spare each customer from bringing its own power plant.

How the technology works

The first test, LunaGrid-Lite, uses a small rover to lay about 500 meters of light cable and send 1 kilowatt across it. Astrobotic said it passed critical design review in 2025 and aimed to be flight-ready by mid-2026.
