CubeRover

Astrobotic's small Moon rovers. The first, CubeRover-1, is about the size of a shoebox and is set to fly on the Griffin-1 lander.

Why it matters

Small rovers let universities, companies and agencies put a mobile instrument on the Moon without designing a rover from scratch. They also serve as the cable-laying vehicle for Astrobotic's LunaGrid power demo.

How the technology works

CubeRovers ride to the Moon on a lander and drive off after landing. The first unit, CubeRover-1, is shoebox-sized and carries a software-defined radio to talk with the Griffin lander.

It finished its flight acceptance tests, including thermal-vacuum and electromagnetic testing, in 2025 and is assigned to Griffin-1.
