VyomIC Navigation Satellite System (VNSS)

A planned constellation of Indian-built low-orbit navigation satellites designed to give 5 cm positioning and 5 ns time sync with encrypted, authenticated signals that are harder to jam or spoof.

Why it matters

India relies on navigation systems run by other countries or on its own regional NavIC, and satellite signals from high orbits are weak in cities and indoors. A domestic low-orbit system would give defense, telecom and autonomous vehicles a sovereign signal that is stronger and harder to fake.

How the technology works

Satellites in low Earth orbit are much closer than GPS, so their signals arrive far stronger; VyomIC claims about 100 times stronger. The company says its signals are encrypted at source and authenticated, and that the constellation runs autonomously in orbit with no dependence on foreign ground stations.

The 2025 pre-seed money is for a LEO-PNT payload and an in-orbit demonstration mission.
