Dauntless
A hybrid-engine small launcher in initial design, planned to carry 1,000 to 2,000 kg to low Earth orbit from Cape Canaveral LC-13 at a target cost of about 8 million dollars per mission.
Why it matters
Hybrid engines use a plastic fuel that does not explode on its own, which makes them safer to build and handle. Dauntless would apply the engine Vaya is developing for defense to small satellite launch.
How the technology works
Vaya's Vortex-Hybrid engine uses vortex injection and a 3D-printed HDPE plastic fuel grain. The engine can be throttled and restarted.
The company plans to launch Dauntless from Cape Canaveral LC-13.
