A space tug TransAstra is developing to move satellites, including whole constellations, into the orbits they need.
Why it matters
Satellites often reach space in an orbit that is not quite where they need to work. A tug that finishes the trip could place a constellation in days rather than months, according to TransAstra.
How the technology works
Worker Bee is designed to position satellite constellations in their orbits. It is built around TransAstra's Omnivore solar thermal thruster, which heats propellant with concentrated sunlight and, the company says, lets it move heavier payloads than a vehicle using chemical thrusters.
