Skylark Precise Positioning Service
A cloud correction service for GPS and other navigation satellites that brings a car's or device's position error down from several meters to centimeters, sold to automakers, IoT makers and mobile apps.
Why it matters
Ordinary satellite positioning is off by about 5 to 10 meters, which is fine for directions but not for lane-level driving, scooters that must stay off sidewalks, or delivery robots. Skylark brings mass-market receivers to centimeter accuracy, and Swift says it was the first cloud-based real-time service certified to the auto industry's ISO 26262 safety standard.
How the technology works
Satellite navigation signals are distorted on the way down, especially by the ionosphere and troposphere. Skylark runs a network of reference stations, built and operated with mobile network operators, and a cloud model of those atmospheric errors.
Devices receive the corrections over an internet connection and apply them to reach centimeter-level positions.
