PERUN

An 11.5 meter hybrid-engine sounding rocket meant to carry up to 50 kg of experiments to a design altitude of 150 km, launched from Poland with sites in Portugal and the North Sea planned.

Why it matters

SpaceForest says it wants Polish rockets launching from Poland so scientists, research institutes and companies can test their work in real space conditions. It has also signed deals to fly from Portugal's Santa Maria island and a floating platform in the North Sea.

How the technology works

PERUN is driven by SpaceForest's SF1000 hybrid engine, which burns paraffin. Its first two test flights reached 22 km and 13 km after anomalies.

With ESA co-funding, SpaceForest is upgrading the engine's combustion chamber and plans demonstration flights to 50, 80, 100 and 150 km.
