Autonomous threat-response guidance
Onboard AI that helps a satellite detect threats such as signal jamming or an approaching object and maneuver to safety by itself.
Why it matters
Satellites are now targets, and a ground team may take too long to react to an attack or close approach. Letting the spacecraft respond on its own shortens that gap.
How the technology works
Shield Space is developing AI-driven guidance systems that run on the satellite, detect a likely threat and maneuver to safety without a ground command. It raised £2 million in January 2026 to prepare for its first orbital test flight.
