Starburst

A small spacecraft built to change position quickly within one orbit, for customers who need to retask satellites fast. The first one, Starburst-1, launched in October 2026.

Why it matters

Military and commercial operators increasingly want satellites that can move on short notice, to inspect something, dodge a threat or cover a new area. Starburst is Portal's quicker, smaller offering while the larger Supernova is built.

How the technology works

Starburst is an ESPA-class spacecraft, sized to ride on standard rideshare rings. It uses ammonia-based thrusters and, per Portal, has more than 750 m/s of delta-v.

Starburst-1 was self-funded and flew Atomic-6 debris-shielding tiles.
