PlanetScope
Planet's fleet of small Dove satellites that photograph most of Earth's land nearly every day at medium resolution, used for farming, forestry, mapping and monitoring change over time.
Why it matters
Daily coverage of the whole land surface was not commercially available before Planet. It lets farmers, insurers, governments and researchers spot change soon after it happens instead of waiting for a scheduled pass.
How the technology works
Many shoebox-sized satellites fly in a line in low Earth orbit and image the ground continuously as Earth turns beneath them. Planet stitches the pictures into a time series that customers access through its online platform and software tools.
