GHOSt constellation

Orbital Sidekick's Global Hyperspectral Observation Satellite constellation. Three satellites launched in 2023 and image in hundreds of narrow bands at 8-meter resolution.

Why it matters

Materials and leaks have spectral fingerprints a normal camera misses. TechCrunch reported that this data can help find pipeline leaks even when the pipe is buried, a job oil and gas companies have done with slower, costlier methods.

How the technology works

GHOSt 1, 2 and 3 launched on SpaceX Transporter-7 and Transporter-8 in 2023. Each carries a hyperspectral imager capturing 472 spectral bands at 8 m ground sampling distance.

The data feeds the company's SIGMA monitoring software.
