RAVEN shuttle and NEST depot
Orbit Fab's planned in-orbit fuel network: RAVEN shuttles carry 150 to 200 kg of propellant to satellites, and NEST depots store larger amounts to refill the shuttles. First launches are planned for 2030.
Why it matters
Refueling ports only pay off if there is fuel waiting in orbit. RAVEN and NEST are meant to be that supply chain, so satellite owners can buy propellant in space instead of launching it all up front.
How the technology works
A RAVEN shuttle maneuvers to a client satellite fitted with a RAFTI port, docks using Orbit Fab's GRIP nozzle, and transfers propellant. NEST depots act as fuel stations that resupply the shuttles, and several could form a network.
Orbit Fab has not said which orbits the first units will serve.
