A modular phased-array ground antenna that steers its beams electronically, so one site can talk to several satellites at once and go up quickly; one site was installed in 12 hours.
Why it matters
Traditional dishes track one satellite at a time and take months to build. Electronic steering and fast installs could make ground capacity keep pace with fast-growing constellations.
How the technology works
Flat panels of many small antenna elements form beams in software instead of moving a dish. Panels combine for more power; Northwood says it showed 1 kW of transmit power and sub-picowatt reception from the same face.
