EyeStar radios and Black Box

Satellite radios that send a spacecraft's data through the Iridium network, giving near-continuous contact without dedicated ground stations.

Why it matters

Small satellites often go hours between ground passes. Relaying through an existing satellite network keeps them in touch almost all the time.

How the technology works

EyeStar units link a satellite to the Iridium NEXT constellation for tracking and data relay. In 2023 NearSpace Launch introduced a Black Box version for autonomous tracking and data relay.
