Kythera Operating System (KOS)
Software that automatically manages how software-defined communications satellites assign beams, power and bandwidth to users, and coordinates them with ground equipment.
Why it matters
New communications satellites can be reshaped in orbit, but only if software decides how to use that flexibility in real time. Doing it well lowers the cost of each bit delivered.
How the technology works
KOS provisions service, reconfigures payloads and ground components, and works around weather, hardware faults and interference without manual steps. Thales Alenia Space uses it for its Space Inspire ground mission segment, and Methera chose it for a MEO constellation.
