Methane Watch
Satellite-based methane monitoring sold to regulators and oil and gas operators, with a public open-data site at methanewatch.kayrros.org.
Why it matters
Methane is a strong greenhouse gas, and leaks from oil and gas sites often go unreported. Independent detection from orbit lets regulators check what companies report and helps operators find and fix leaks.
How the technology works
Methane Watch draws on up to three different satellites in near real time, picking the best available sources rather than tying itself to one mission. Kayrros's algorithms estimate where emissions come from and how large they are, and high-resolution imagery ties events to specific operators.
