Globalstar satellite network

Low Earth orbit satellite network that relays IoT data, SPOT tracker messages and satellite phone calls through 24 ground stations, now getting 17 or more replacement satellites from MDA.

Why it matters

Globalstar's network carries services for a large customer that has prepaid up to $1.58 billion toward network infrastructure, and Amazon agreed in 2026 to acquire the company, which shows how much demand there is for licensed mobile satellite spectrum.

How the technology works

The satellites work as bent-pipe relays: they pick up a signal from a device and pass it straight down to one of 24 ground stations on six continents, covering more than 80% of Earth's surface. Replacement satellites from MDA were being delivered in 2026, with SpaceX launches contracted.
