CONTEC optical ground stations

CONTEC's laser receiving stations in South Korea, the second of them at its Asian Space Park, built to download satellite data with light instead of radio.

Why it matters

Laser links can move data faster and more securely than radio and avoid radio interference, which matters as imaging satellites produce more data.

How the technology works

The stations use Cailabs laser communication technology, including its TILBA-OGS L10 telescope, which corrects for air turbulence so a narrow laser beam from a satellite can be captured on the ground.
