Element

CesiumAstro's own small satellite, built around its software-defined radios and phased arrays so one spacecraft can be reprogrammed for different communications jobs in orbit.

Why it matters

Defense and commercial operators increasingly want satellites whose radios can change mission after launch. Buying a complete spacecraft from the company that makes the radios removes one integration step.

How the technology works

Element packages CesiumAstro's radio modules, onboard processors and electronically steered antennas into a satellite. The company lists Element-1 as launched and on orbit, and the U.S.

Space Force's STRATFI program partly funded the first Element satellite.
