Capella radar satellites
Capella's radar imaging satellites, which can photograph the ground day or night and through clouds, sold to government and commercial customers.
Why it matters
Optical satellites go blind under clouds and at night. Radar does not, which matters for military monitoring and disaster response. Under IonQ the fleet is also meant to host quantum communication experiments.
How the technology works
Synthetic aperture radar satellites send microwave pulses to the ground and record the echoes, then combine many pulses as the satellite moves to build a detailed image. Customers order images through Capella's online tasking system.
