BlackSky Gen-3

BlackSky's newest imaging satellites, sharp enough to see objects about 35 cm across, which the company sells as subscriptions and also sells outright to foreign governments.

Why it matters

Sharper pictures with fast revisits are what defense buyers want. Gen-3 imagery underpinned a nearly $30 million one-year subscription from an international defense customer in 2026.

How the technology works

Gen-3 satellites capture 35 cm resolution images and are tasked through BlackSky's Spectra software. BlackSky says it opened Gen-3 imaging to customers less than a week after launching its fourth Gen-3, and its fifth returned first images less than 20 hours after liftoff.

Customers can buy subscriptions or a full sovereign system.
