BOX

Microwave-sized automated unit that grows crystals of antibody cancer drugs in orbit, inside a return capsule or a commercial space station.

Why it matters

Many antibody cancer drugs must be given by medical staff. Turning them into crystal forms could let patients inject a small dose themselves at home, and BioOrbit says crystals grown in microgravity reach pharmaceutical grade.

How the technology works

BOX runs crystallization autonomously during the flight, then the product returns to Earth. BioOrbit flew a first demonstration on The Exploration Company's 2025 Nyx demonstrator and planned another mission in 2026, with up to two in 2027.
