Lunatron print system

A system to melt lunar soil into interlocking bricks and place them to build landing pads, blast walls and roads.

Why it matters

Landers kick up fast-moving dust and rock. Hard landing pads and berms built from local soil would protect equipment and crews at a permanent base without shipping concrete from Earth.

How the technology works

Robots excavate and sieve regolith and feed it to a furnace that melts it, and the material is formed into interlocking bricks. A Brickbot machine places them.

Astroport says this work is backed by a NASA STTR Phase II portfolio worth $1.4 million.
