Rocket 4

Astra's next small rocket, targeting about 1 tonne to low orbit, aimed at frequent, low-cost launches for defense and commercial satellites. Astra expects a first test flight in 2026.

Why it matters

The Pentagon wants rockets that can launch on short notice. Rocket 4 is Astra's bid for that business after its earlier rocket failed too often.

How the technology works

Rocket 4 is a two-stage rocket that burns liquid oxygen and kerosene, and Astra aims to fly it as often as weekly. Astra also has a Defense Innovation Unit contract to demonstrate point-to-point cargo delivery with it.
