Sagitta star tracker

A star tracker for small satellites, with flight heritage and a built-in baffle, that works out which way the satellite is pointing to within about 2 arcseconds.

Why it matters

Precise pointing is what turns a blurry image into a sharp one and keeps laser links locked. Star trackers are the most accurate way to measure orientation.

How the technology works

A small camera photographs the star field, matches the pattern to an onboard star catalog and computes the satellite's orientation. Arcsec says it acquires an attitude in 99.9% of night-sky scenarios.

A smaller model, Twinkle, lets several trackers fit on one satellite.
