Spacetime
Network orchestration software that predicts when moving spacecraft, aircraft and ground stations can link up and tells each one where to point and when to pass data on.
Why it matters
Links to the Moon and beyond open and close as things move, and signals take seconds to minutes. Planning links in advance lets sparse networks carry more data, and ESA is using Spacetime for its LunaNet-compatible deep space hub.
How the technology works
Spacetime tracks every node's motion and forecasts link windows. Paired with delay-tolerant networking, which stores data at each node and forwards it when the next link opens, it chooses the path and timing for each hop instead of waiting to see which link appears.
